4 Excellent Reasons to Move to Montérégie

4 Excellent Reasons to Move to Montérégie

Montérégie is a vast region combining nature, country living and urban vitality. There are as many rural communities as there are city and suburban neighbourhoods.

In which municipality will you find your dream home? Will it be Chambly, Contrecœur, Lac-Brome, Rougemont, Mont-Saint-Hilaire or Saint-Hyacinthe, just to name a few? Each one stands out for its own unique features and attractions. Would you like to move to this region? Here are its most charming characteristics!

Fabulous Mountains

The first excellent reason for moving to Montérégie is its numerous mountains. No matter where you live, there is a peak nearby: Mont Saint-Grégoire, Mont Rouge, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Mont Rigaud, Mont Saint-Bruno, Mont Brome, etc. Go for a hike anytime you want! The view from every summit is breathtaking. Plus, it is an immensely popular hang-gliding spot in the summer.

Outdoor Activities

In addition to hiking in the mountains, you can take advantage of a full range of outdoor activities in Montérégie, both in summer and in winter. There is a vast network of Nordic walking trails as well as cycling and Fatbike paths. There are renowned snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails across the territory. Various skating or tubing facilities and many Via Ferrata courses have been created. Finally, Montérégie is a prime spot for water sports thanks to its navigable waterways.

Heritage Sites

This region is also known for its numerous historical attractions. At the foot of the Richelieu Rapids stands Fort Chambly, where you journey into the past to New France. Fort-Lennox in Saint-Paul-de-l’Île-aux-Noix looks back on this same period by focusing on the lives of soldiers. In Saint-Anicet, the Droulers-Tsiionhiakwatha Archeological Site Interpretation Centre offers visitors an opportunity to discover how 15th century First Nation’s peoples lived by exploring a recreation of an Iroquoian village.

Rural Lifestyle

In Montérégie, there are as many new intensively planned community-oriented housing developments as there are areas where the properties are set on large verdant lots. It is possible to live surrounded by agricultural fields or even to purchase your own small farm. This region is famous among tourists for its berry and apple picking.

All this, without having to give up the advantages of living near a metropolitan area. In fact, depending on where you live in the region (Montérégie is vast!), Montreal and Sherbrooke may be only a short drive away. Otherwise, municipalities usually have a vibrant downtown with all essential services.

Houses values in Montérégie vary greatly from one sector to the next. If you have been won over, contact a real estate broker working in the region and send them your search criteria. They will know which municipalities are most likely to check all your boxes!
