Sleeping Among the Trees: 5 Must-Experience Woodland Retreats

Sleeping Among the Trees: 5 Must-Experience Woodland Retreats

Perched cabins, micro-cottages or suspended spheres, treetop shelters are popular in Quebec. Located in the middle of the forest, these playful, convivial spaces are perfect little hideaways where we can truly get away from it all!

Many will be happy to know that most businesses renting out these types of woodland retreat are eco-minded — usually using green building materials — with a focus on protecting the local flora and fauna. But it’s not the only good reason to vacation in the trees.

1- Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux: Sleeping in a Sphere!

The Parc Aventures Cap Jaseux de Saint-Fulgence offers several stunning lodging options, such as suspended spheres, domes and treehouses. But our favourite without a doubt is the futuristic mirrored sphere! Despite its small size, it can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children thanks to its movable furniture. The domes are, likewise, extremely comfortable. As for outdoor activities, the site is only a short distance from the majestic Fjord-du-Saguenay. Or you could also set out on an adventure on the Via Ferrata, explore the high wire hiking trail or simply go walking. So much to do and see!

2- Kabania: Where Nature Goes Modern

If you’re the kind of person who loves soft interiors with a touch of sophistication, even when it comes to cottages, Kabania (in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci) is just for you. A welcoming common room is available on site when health measures permit. In addition to the tastefully built cabins, the location is only 30 minutes away from the spa La Source-Bains Nordiques, where you relax and recharge. Note that the Ouareau forest trail is equally close by for those who want to stretch their legs and get some fresh air.

3- Les toits du monde: Step Into an Enchanted Woodland

Located 45 minutes from Mont-Tremblant is the little-known and sparsely populated region of Nominingue. Almost a pristine wilderness, Nominingue is home to an exceptional flora and fauna. In this outstanding environment, Les toits du monde has created cabins of all sorts that can be rented by the lucky few. The accommodations include a Hobbit house and a tipi as well as a chalet perched 20 feet in the air connected to a suspension bridge. The treehouse was designed with slightly skewed proportions: sloping walls, a curved roof and twisted windows. A fairy tale world!

4- Canopée lit: Totally Inspiring

How about leaving your car at the edge of the forest and walking through the trees to reach your rental cabin? This is exactly what you get to do at Canopée Lit in Sacré-Coeur. Several small original dwellings are available, such as open-roofed houses and bubbles, either suspended or at ground level. And guess what! They are located just 15 minutes from Tadoussac… Don’t miss this opportunity to see the whales! Take some time to go down to the wharf at L’Anse-de-Roche, where you can promenade along the banks and admire the scenery.

5- Les refuges perchés: Minimalism in the Woods

Mont-Tremblant is home to an enchanting site where guests can enjoy a stay in some 20 perched cottages. The most impressive cabins have been built on the edge of a cliff. All have a canopy-level balcony offering a stunning view of the lake, and you can even canoe there. Beware! These cottages are completely off grid for a totally immersive nature experience.

There is nothing better than spending a few days in an isolated, whimsical place to clear your mind. Isn’t it great that you don’t even need to leave Quebec to be blown away!
