Patterns and Prints: The Decor Trend That Isn’t Going Away Anytime Soon!

Did you know that classic neutral decors are no longer king? Although many still prefer them, designers now agree that eclectic colourful interiors are gaining in popularity and will soon take over our homes. Patterns and prints fit perfectly into this latest trend.

This year, patterns and prints come in all colours, textures, sizes and shapes: geometric, asymmetrical, hexagonal or herringbone. You can create freer, more dynamic and, above all, livable rooms! And those who like a softer decor can still integrate these motifs into their spaces, just more sparingly. Aren’t they surprisingly versatile?

For Furnishings

Homeowners on the lookout for a unique style of interior decoration should consider patterned furnishings. For example, a wooden dresser whose doors have been inlaid in contrasting triangles or lines, or a bookcase whose back wall has been covered in a wallpaper featuring a repeating circular design. There are also, in stores, several models of chairs and sofas in colourfully printed textiles. To really stand out, choose a patchwork fabric; it will give the room a modern, yet playful look.

For Carpets and Area Rugs

Rugs have always come in patterns and motifs, but this year, there has been an explosion of colour, texture and shape combinations! There is something out there to suit any taste: bohemian, mid-century, modern or classic. An area rug can serve many functions, such as delineating a zone or adding a touch of warmth and conviviality. Plus, a boldly patterned rug will instantly become the room’s focal point. So, choose yours carefully!

For Tiles

Ceramic and porcelain tile manufacturers have also embraced this trend. Use patterned tiles to create an accent wall in the bedroom or update your shower with a black and white hexagonal tile insert. When it comes to flooring, Victorian-style porcelain tiles are sure to help your entryway make an impression or bring a touch of luxury to your walk-in closet.

The Perfect Way to Upcycle!

The other good thing about this trend is that you can use it to repurpose objects that you already have. You can transform a solid glass vase with a bit of paint or a modern stencil design, or a boring bedside table can be given a second life in a child’s room thanks to a pastel-hued herringbone pattern. Opportunities abound!

Dare to Mix It Up!

Don’t forget that the whole point of this trend is for you to let loose and be more extravagant in your decor. For example, you are now free to place a cushion featuring a circular motif next to one in a more abstract fabric, all in front of a bold botanical print wallpaper; and now your patterned bedding can share the stage with a velvet chair and geometric carpet. Give your bedroom a whole new look!

Some restraint is, however, recommended. Too many patterns could make the space chaotic and oppressive. Balance is key!
